MAISON VOLTA

MAISON VOLTA — The ateliers, Paris

SCISSORS,CHALK,ALMOST NOTHING.

Eighty hours of bench work before meeting a hanger.

Three ateliers under one roof, twenty-two artisans, no machine the hand does not watch. Work happens behind a closed door, in north light, at the pace of the piece — never at the pace of the calendar.

The three ateliers

Cutting, dyeing, finishing.

01

THE CUTTING ROOM

The cloth rests forty-eight hours before it is touched. Then chalk, scissors, and a single chance — a length of vicuña does not forgive.

02

THE DYE HOUSE

Vats built the old way, baths held to the hour. The VOLTA rose has no written formula: it has a keeper.

03

THE FINISHING ROOM

Hand-worked buttonholes, invisible hems, the artisan's signature inside. The piece is finished when no one can find anything left to correct.

The hands

Twenty-two artisans. No name published.

The names stay in the atelier. The signatures stay in the pieces.
